This will be a discussion led by the co-chairs of the university’s AI Advisory Group: Mardecia Bell, CISO; Ray Levy, Executive Director, Data Science and AI Academy; Jill Sexton, Associate Director for Digital & Organizational Strategy, Libraries.  During the session we will share information about the advisory groups’ charge, progress made to date, and future initiatives planned to leverage AI’s capabilities in advancing teaching and learning, research, and business operations at NC State.

Optimizing IT Service Management: Best Practices in Request Fulfillment, Change, Incident and Knowledge Management

Effective management of change, incidents, knowledge and request fulfillment are core components of IT service Management (ITSM) and are critical to ensuring the stability, security and efficiency of IT services. This session will provide an overview of best practices, recommended by The Office of Information Technology, for managing these core areas.

Attendees will gain a clear understanding of key terminology, roles and responsibilities across change management, incident management, knowledge management and request fulfillment processes. The session will dive into the workflows and lifecycles of each discipline, highlighting how they interconnect and support each other to enhance IT service delivery.

Git Wizardry: Artificial Perfection

With mastery of intermediate Git commands, you too can present an aura of perfection by rewriting history and fixing mistakes before sharing your work with your peers. Keep your changes cleaner and easier to review with these simple tips and tricks for tidying up your git commits before sending your Pull Request.

This session is intended for people comfortable with the basics of using Git for version control and are looking to take things to the next level.

BREAKOUT Session II (3pm – 3:40pm)

The Research Facilitation Service: supporting NC State research through connection and collaboration

The Research Facilitation Service (RFS), a joint endeavor on the part of the University Libraries, OIT, and ORI, launched via a pilot with the College of Sciences in spring 2022 and is now currently operational with 4 campus colleges. The RFS was formed to provide a single point of contact for research computing and data questions, ranging from data storage and management, local and national computing resources, and sensitivity and public access compliance requirements. 

This talk will introduce attendees to the RFS by providing an overview of the range of topics and requests the service receives and the types of support we provide. We will highlight several use cases throughout, and discuss how RFS members collaborate with central and campus IT units to provide this support to users. We will also highlight a 2024 project to better understand and document the nationwide ecosystem of advanced research computing and data services that are available to investigators here at NC State, touching on how this project aligned with our charge, project outcomes, and how we hope to use our findings to shape future consultations. We will conclude by noting priority areas for the RFS for the coming year.

Achieving Digital Accessibility Compliance by 2026: What developers and digital content editors need to know

This session will provide participants with information on how to move forward in their roles to meet ADA Compliance concerning the ADA Title II compliance deadline of April 24, 2026. An overview of what digital accessibility means, who it applies to, and tools to incorporate into your design and development process to ensure that all of NC State’s digital assets meet this new compliance mandate.
