Recognizing Outstanding Teams and Individuals
Submit Award Nominations
As part of this IT Community Event, we are hosting the annual NC State IT Community Awards to recognize teams and individuals who have made a significant collaborative impact within the IT community.
Nominations are due by Friday, Nov. 22nd.
Nominees and recipients for the 2025 Annual IT Community Awards will be recognized at the IT Community Awards Celebration and Closing Event on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025.

Operational Excellence Team Award
Criteria for Award:
The criteria for selection will focus on exemplary IT operational support as shown through examples of service improvements, customer service, innovation or problem-solving. These examples have been achieved through teamwork and collaboration that exceeded expectations on a day-to-day basis.
The Operational Excellence Team Award recognizes a team that has functioned exceptionally well and collaborated within and across organizational structures in fulfillment of its operational responsibilities.
Nominations should include:
- The team members and their contact information
- A description of the work and the team’s impact
- The community served by the team
- Examples of service improvements, customer service, innovation, or problem-solving through collaborative team efforts
- Special efforts in practicing inclusive excellence
- How the efforts helped further the university’s mission and upheld its values.
One or more Operational Excellence Team Awards may be awarded.
Extraordinary Project Team Impact Award
Description of Award:
The Extraordinary Team Impact Award recognizes a high-functioning team that has facilitated, promoted or advanced the university’s goals, mission, vision and values through its collaborative project-focused efforts.
Criteria for Award:
The criteria for selection will focus upon a successful team effort on a project that supports one or more of our institutional goals and provides a valuable enhancement for the university or a sub-segment of the university. Special consideration will be given to teams that have exhibited exceptional cross-functional teamwork, embedding diversity and inclusiveness within the university community and beyond.
Nominations should include:
- The team members and their contact information
- A description of the project and the team’s impact
- The community served by the team
- Examples of the institutional goals achieved through the project
- Examples of collaborative efforts
- Special efforts in practicing inclusive excellence
- How the efforts helped further the university’s mission and upheld its values.
One or more Extraordinary Project Team Impact Awards may be awarded.
Team Player Award
Description of Award:
The Team Player Award recognizes a person who has taken the initiative to foster collaboration, communication and cooperation with units or individuals outside their department. This individual has performed at a level above and beyond in bringing the campus community together, while also furthering the department’s or university’s goals and mission while upholding its values.
Criteria for Award:
The criteria for selection will focus upon outstanding collaborative and cooperative actions that support the university’s goals, mission, vision and values, and that have provided a valuable improvement. Consideration will also be given to those who have embedded diversity and inclusiveness or provided exceptional service to the university community and beyond.
Nominations should include:
- Nominee’s contact information
- A description of the nominee’s actions
- The problem to be solved and how the nominee’s actions solved the problem
- Who benefited from the nominee’s actions
- Special efforts in practicing inclusive excellence and exceptional service
- How the nominee’s efforts helped further the university’s mission and goals while upholding its values.
Rising Star Award
Description of Award:
The Rising Star Award recognizes a new employee (employed three years or less in an IT-related role at the university) who has made significant contributions to their area or to the university community in a collaborative way. This individual has innovative ideas, has made significant contributions, and has volunteered to assist when and where needed. This individual will have a demonstrated record of improvement, excellent customer service, and cooperation, and be a self-starter with a take-charge attitude.
Criteria for Award:
The criteria for selection will focus upon successful collaborative, cooperative, or innovative contributions of a newer IT professional that has provided a significant contribution to the university, furthering the department’s or university’s goals and mission while upholding its values.
Nominations should include:
- The nominee’s contact information
- A description of the contributions and impact the nominee has made, including any examples of particularly collaborative efforts, innovations, outstanding initiative or exceptional customer service
- How the nominee’s efforts helped further the university’s goals and mission while upholding its values.
